Michael DeMenno

What's your dogs name? Frankie

How long have you known him? 14 years.  1AM outside of night club, he jumped in the back of my car.  A homeless person, told me he was following her for miles and was thankful that I picked him up.  After ads in the paper and being on morning TV show, I got attached and I had a new best friend.

What's your favorite thing to do with him?  Walk him.  Tug-a-War with an old-shirt (when he was younger and healthy).  Drives to the beach.

What's your fondest memory of him growing up? He has always had a puppy-like personality.  He never grew up; just like his owner.

How has he added or subtracted from /in your life?  Frankie gives me joy every time I look at him or look at a picture of him.  He's brought me out of a lot ruts and he kept me out of trouble.

When was he diagnosed? 6 years ago Frankie had a growth on his hind leg.   I had it removed and new one grew back.  4 years ago he went through radiation.   2 years ago a new tumor appeared.  I had it removed, but in the past few months the tumors are growing rapidly throughout his body and moved into his lungs.

How did you feel? I feel very fortunate to have had Frankie come into my life.

How do you spend your days together now and what as it taught you? Many days are spent just being together in the backyard and going for walks or just lie next to him on the floor.   In the past, the walks would move a little faster and I would nudge him after he smelled something for a bit too long.   Now I let him smell as long as he wants and I wished I had always took more time to enjoy each walk. What was the rush?   There are days when he is not doing well and I only wish I took even more time each day he greeted me with high-energy.  Now, when he has a good day, I soak it in.  I guess, we all take things for granted.

Would you change anything? Not a thing.
